Title: Lake Orion - STEP 5: Budgets and Audits
Post by: Shadowninja on Sep 14, 2026, 02:27 PM
Dearest reader,

Step Five brings Lady Budgetdown to Lake Orion Community Schools' General Fund where budgets meet reality. 🪶

The last three completed audits show the district added to its fund balance every year:

📚 2022–23: +$201,850
📚 2023–24: +$572,697
📚 2024–25: +$2,295,015

Ending 2024–25 with $11.81 million in General Fund balance.

And 2024–25 deserves a little circle in the ledger: the final budget anticipated a $564,010 increase.

The audit ultimately showed +$2.295 million, about $1.73 million better than budgeted.

There is also a $201,850 discrepancy between two district documents regarding the 2023–24 beginning fund balance. Lady Budgetdown isn't going to guess why.

The documents differ. We report what the receipts show.

Overall? These three audits do not paint a picture of an obvious General Fund financial crisis.

Sometimes the receipts raise eyebrows.

Sometimes they simply tell us the coffers are healthier than the budget predicted. 🪶
