KENT COUNTY: FOLLOW THE MONEY 🪶
Dearest readers, Your Lady has opened another ledger, and Kent County brought quite a spread.
Using Michigan Department of Education's final 2024–25 Bulletin 1014, I broke down General Fund revenue per pupil by where the money actually came from: State, Local, Federal, and the remaining Other/Transfers needed to reach MDE's reported "All Sources" total.
For the first nine districts:
Grand Rapids — $19,172
Godwin Heights — $18,969
Godfrey-Lee — $18,371
Kentwood — $17,278
Kelloggsville — $17,057
Sparta — $16,905
Wyoming — $16,704
Comstock Park — $16,686
Cedar Springs — $16,069
And there, standing quietly in the middle of the ledger, is our familiar $9,608 foundation allowance.
A useful benchmark? Absolutely.
The entire funding picture? Not even close.
That is precisely why Your Lady prefers opening the ledger rather than stopping at a single number. The receipts tend to have considerably more to say. 🪶
One housekeeping note: Kenowa Hills is not included because MDE reports no 2024–25 financial data for the district after its FID data was not submitted by the deadline.
