📜 SAGINAW TOWNSHIP COMMUNITY SCHOOLS: LET'S OPEN THE LEDGER
Well, this one went somewhere a little different. 👀
I gave Saginaw Township Community Schools the same look I recently gave Plymouth-Canton and Rochester.
Same type of NCES data. Same basic question. Different answer.
Over the period examined:
👥 Pupils: ↓ 7.6%
🍎 Teachers: ↑ 4.1%
📚 Instructional aides / paras: ↑ 117.9%
🏫 Building administration: ↑ 37.2%
🏢 District / central administration: ↑ 2.1%
That last number caught my attention. Because if I went looking for a giant central-office expansion in Saginaw Township...
I didn't find one.
Central administration barely moved.
But while enrollment declined, building administration grew 37.2% and instructional aides more than doubled.
Now that raises some interesting questions.
What changed inside the buildings?
Why did paraprofessional staffing grow so dramatically?
What drove the increase in building-level administration?
And perhaps most importantly:
What did those staffing changes mean for the classroom?
I don't have to decide what the answer should be. The ledger is much more entertaining when I let it tell me where to look. 🪶
Source: NCES Common Core of Data (CCD). Staffing figures are FTE.
🪶 With receipts & respect.
