🪶 LADY BUDGETDOWN | MONTROSE: THE $100K+ LEDGER
Dear Readers, we've followed Montrose's funding. We've followed its staffing.
Now it's time to follow compensation.
Montrose Community Schools' own Calendar Year 2023 Employee Compensation Information identifies seven positions with Medicare Wages of $100,000 or more, and, as always, Lady Budgetdown uses the terminology the district itself uses.
Here is what the public record shows:
💰 Combined Medicare Wages: $812,783.87
📊 Combined Total Compensation: $1,295,887.69
📈 Difference: $483,103.82
🧾 Average Medicare Wages: $116,111.98
💼 Average Total Compensation: $185,126.81
At the top is the Superintendent, with $156,184.59 in Medicare Wages and $239,313.67 in total compensation.
But this is not simply an administrator list.
The seven reported positions include the superintendent, assistant superintendent, an alternative principal/athletic director, a dean of students, two principals, and a teacher.
That's an important distinction.
Lady Budgetdown isn't deciding whose compensation belongs in the conversation. The district's public disclosure determines who appears in the ledger. The same standard applies whether the title says superintendent, principal, teacher, or anything else.
And "total compensation" isn't another word for wages. For this analysis, it includes the Medicare Wages plus the other compensation components Montrose reports, including FICA/Medicare, retirement, cash in lieu where applicable, and insurance benefits.
No outrage required. No names required. And no suggestion that earning more than $100,000 is inherently good or bad.
Just public numbers, presented in context.
Because transparency isn't about deciding which public records are comfortable to discuss.
It's about applying the same standard to everyone.
🪶 With receipts and respect.
