FITZGERALD PUBLIC SCHOOLS: 10 YEARS BY THE NUMBERS
Lady Budgetdown is continuing the district-by-district look at Michigan school finances — this time with Fitzgerald Public Schools in Macomb County.
Using Michigan Department of Education Bulletin 1014 data, here is what changed from 2014-15 to 2024-25:
📉 Average Pupil Count
2,620 → 2,302.49
Down 317.51 pupils (-12.12%)
💰 All Sources Revenue Per Pupil
$10,752 → $16,290
Up $5,538 (+51.51%)
📚 Instruction Per Pupil
$6,860 → $8,984
Up $2,124 (+30.96%)
🧩 Instructional Support Per Pupil
$1,329 → $3,005
Up $1,676 (+126.11%)
🏛 Business & Administration Per Pupil
$1,321 → $2,016
Up $695 (+52.61%)
🔧 Operations & Maintenance Per Pupil
$1,114 → $1,883
Up $769 (+69.03%)
📊 Total General Fund Expenditures Per Pupil
$10,945 → $16,569
Up $5,624 (+51.38%)
🍎 Average Teacher Salary
$67,532 → $69,092
Up $1,560 (+2.31%)
That last number deserves some context.
Over the same 10-year period in which Fitzgerald's pupil count declined 12.12% and General Fund expenditures per pupil increased 51.38%, the reported average teacher salary increased just 2.31%.
That does not tell us why.
Teacher experience levels, retirements, turnover, staffing composition and FTE reporting can all affect an average salary figure. So Lady Budgetdown isn't going to fill in the blanks with assumptions.
Instead, we'll keep following the numbers.
