NOVI COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT UPDATE
Lady Budgetdown has an update to share regarding the staffing and budget concerns discussed here recently.
In an August 17 communication to Novi staff, Superintendent Benjamin Mainka said district leadership met with NEA President Matt Burry and reviewed the district's current situation and priorities moving forward.
Most notably:
Novi says it will not be laying off teachers.
Mainka also said the district is working to protect student programs and services while making other adjustments, including changes to intervention support, instructional coaching assignments, sixth-grade teaming, Novi Virtual staffing, and administrative positions.
On the budget, Mainka acknowledged the district needed to "tighten our belt a little bit this year," describing shifts in assignments, reductions in some roles, and efforts to operate more efficiently while protecting jobs to the fullest extent possible.
Some staff members will still experience assignment or role changes, which the district says are being finalized.
That is a meaningful update from where this conversation stood just a short time ago, and Lady Budgetdown wanted readers to have it.
As always, when the information changes, the ledger gets updated. 🪶
With receipts and respect.
