**HAZEL PARK: THE STAFFING LEDGER**
The financial numbers raised questions.
The staffing numbers add another layer.
From 2014 -15 to 2024 -25, Hazel Park Schools' student headcount fell from **3,655 to 2,957**.
That's **698 fewer students - a 19.1% decline.**
But total staffing?
👥 **All Staff Headcount**
706 → 697
**−9 staff | −1.3%**
📊 **All Staff FTE**
605.23 → 601.10
**−4.13 FTE | −0.7%**
In other words, student enrollment declined substantially while overall staffing remained essentially flat.
But look beneath the total.
👩🏫 **Teachers:**
279 → 237
**−42 | −15.1%**
Teacher FTE declined **16.2%.**
📚 **Paraprofessionals/Aides:**
179 → 97
**−82 | −45.8%**
Para/Aide FTE declined **44.4%.**
Meanwhile...
⚙️ **Non-Instructional Staff:**
177 → 275
**+98 | +55.4%**
And non-instructional FTE?
130.55 → 246.39
**+115.84 FTE | +88.7%**
Administrators also increased from **24 to 26 (+8.3%)**, while administrator FTE increased **8.4%**.
And day-to-day substitute teachers jumped from **14 to 62, an increase of 342.9%.**
The total number of employees may look relatively unchanged.
**The composition of that workforce is not.**
Students: **−19.1%**
Teachers: **−15.1%**
Total Staff: **−1.3%**
Non-Instructional Staff: **+55.4%**
Non-Instructional FTE: **+88.7%**
Those numbers don't tell us *why* the shift occurred.
But a shift this significant certainly deserves a closer look.
And the Hazel Park ledger isn't closed yet. 🪶
**With receipts and respect.**
