Lady Budgetdown: Packing the Suitcases... On the Taxpayer's Tab?
Dearest Readers,
Every public dollar spent deserves public accountability.
One of the many transparency reports published by Troy School District details district-paid out-of-state travel for the 2024–2025 school year. Lady Budgetdown simply gathered the receipts and laid them out for everyone to see.
According to the district's report:
✈️ 27 out-of-state trips were paid for by the district.
📍 Travel included:
Washington, D.C.
New Orleans, Louisiana
Tucson, Arizona
San Diego, California
Rancho Mirage, California
Marco Island, Florida
Chicago, Illinois
Columbus, Ohio
Falls Church, Virginia
Villanova, Pennsylvania
Overland, Kansas
New Hampshire
The reported purposes included:
National conferences
Leadership symposiums
Professional development
School site visits
Technology conferences
Curriculum and instructional training
Advocacy institutes
The district reported a total cost of approximately:
💰 $45,403.78
The report includes travel for district administrators, principals, supervisors and technology leadership.
Now, before anyone jumps to conclusions...
Professional development is an important part of education. School leaders should continue learning, networking and bringing back new ideas.
But transparency matters just as much.
Taxpayers have every right to know:
Where district employees traveled.
Why they traveled.
Who attended.
And what those trips cost.
That's not criticism.
That's accountability.
Public trust grows when public records are easy to find and easy to understand.
Lady Budgetdown isn't here to tell you whether every trip was worth the expense.
Lady Budgetdown is simply making sure the receipts don't stay buried in a PDF.
Because informed taxpayers ask better questions.
The books are open. The receipts are public. And Lady Budgetdown shall continue reading them.
