BANGOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS: THE $100K CLUB

Step 3 takes us to Bangor Public Schools' 2025 employee compensation report. And compared with some districts we've looked at, this is a very short list.

Bangor reported just 3 employees with 2025 Medicare wages over $100,000.

Those three positions were:

• Superintendent — $116,725 in wages and $211,198 in total compensation.

• Food Service Director — $109,995 in wages and $180,373 in total compensation.

• Migrant/ESL Director & Teacher — $94,414 in wages, but $102,868 in Medicare earnings, which is why the position appears on the district's $100,000+ report.

Combined total compensation for all three:

$539,640.

The superintendent's reported total included, among other things, a $7,004 board-paid annuity contribution, $22,972 in insurance, $5,276 in additional district-paid life insurance, $47,025 in retirement costs, and $9,162 in FICA.

There is also an important footnote on the Food Service Director.

Bangor specifically states that those costs were shared between two districts from January through June and three districts from July through December.

That context matters.

And it also fits what we saw in the staffing ledger.

Bangor lost 25.0% of its pupils over the decade, but its administrative staffing also declined substantially. This does not appear to be a district with a large, expanding six-figure central-office roster.

So the Step 3 ledger here is less about how many people are in the club and more about understanding exactly what the district is paying, how those costs are structured, and what taxpayers are actually responsible for.

Three employees.

$539,640 in combined reported compensation.

Receipts in hand.

👑 With receipts and respect.
