📜 PLYMOUTH-CANTON COMMUNITY SCHOOLS: TEN YEARS BY THE NUMBERS
Dear Readers,
A decade can tell quite a story. Particularly when we place the numbers side by side.
From 2014-15 to 2024-25, Plymouth-Canton Community Schools saw its pupil count decline by 8.97%, while the dollars moving through several key categories increased considerably.
During that same period:
💰 All Sources Revenue per Pupil: +66.45%
📚 Instruction per Pupil: +53.45%
📝 Instructional Support per Pupil: +125.99%
🏛 Business & Administration per Pupil: +80.62%
🔧 Operations & Maintenance per Pupil: +73.79%
And then there is the number that deserves a second look.
🍎 Average Teacher Salary: +16.78%
Inflation over the same period was approximately 35.17%.
In other words, while revenue per pupil and each of these spending categories grew faster than inflation, average teacher salary did not.
That does not, by itself, tell us why. Teacher experience, retirements, staffing composition, contracts and other factors can affect an average.
But it does tell us where the next question lies.
When considerably more money is coming in and being spent per pupil, where has that growth actually gone, and how much has reached the classroom and the people teaching in it?
That, dear readers, is precisely why we follow the numbers rather than the narrative.
Receipts aren't very useful if we only keep the convenient ones.
With receipts and respect.
