PLYMOUTH-CANTON COMMUNITY SCHOOLS: WHERE DID THE MONEY GO?
Dear Readers,
We have already looked at Plymouth-Canton Community Schools across ten years. Now, let us narrow the lens to one year 2024-25 and see how the General Fund dollars were spent.
Plymouth-Canton reported $246.23 million in total General Fund expenditures.
Of that:
📚 Instruction: $141.47M — 57.5%
🏫 Operations & Maintenance: $22.53M — 9.2%
👥 Pupil Support: $22.20M — 9.0%
📝 Instructional Staff Support: $19.74M — 8.0%
🏛 School Administration: $14.57M — 5.9%
🚌 Transportation: $12.65M — 5.1%
And when we look at spending another way, by personnel rather than function, we find another important number:
$200.83 million, or 81.6% of all General Fund expenditures, was personnel-related.
That included $117.13M in salaries, $21.67M in employee insurance benefits, and $61.42M for FICA, retirement, unemployment and workers' compensation, plus approximately $604,000 in other personnel expenditures.
None of these numbers, standing alone, tells us whether Plymouth-Canton spends too much or too little.
They simply answer a question every taxpayer should be able to ask:
Where did the money go?
And now we have the receipts.

Receipts aren't very useful if we only keep the convenient ones.
With receipts and respect.
