Title: Plainwell Community Schools ledger takes us to association dues
Post by: Shadowninja on Sep 21, 2026, 02:05 PM
Dearest reader,

Step 4 of the Plainwell Community Schools ledger takes us to association dues.

For 2024–25, the district reports paying a total of:

$23,974.58 in association dues.

The five largest association totals listed in the district's report were:

MASB - Michigan Association of School Boards: $5,793.26

Wolverine Conference: $2,500.00

MASSP - Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals: $2,425.00

MEMSPA - Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association: $2,396.00

MSBO - Michigan School Business Officials: $900.00

But there's some important context here.

This isn't simply a list of administrative organizations.

Plainwell's report includes memberships connected to school boards, administrators, athletics, music, student organizations, transportation, special education, teachers and other district functions.

For example, the ledger includes the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan, Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association, National Honor Society, Michigan World Language Association, Michigan Association for Pupil Transportation and numerous others.

So I'm not going to slap $23,974.58 on a graphic and pretend it's all administrative spending.

It isn't.

What the receipt does show is another category of public spending that often gets very little attention.

Some payments are a few dozen dollars.

Others are several thousand.

Together, they add up.

And that's why we read the whole ledger. 👑📖
