Dearest reader,
We followed Cheboygan Area Schools through ten years of spending.
Then we followed the staffing.
Now Lady B has arrived at the compensation ledger. 🪶
And Cheboygan's is considerably smaller than some of the ledgers we've opened.
According to the district's Calendar Year 2025 employee compensation report, 4 employees had base salaries above $100,000.
Their combined base salaries:
$443,094.00
But, as Lady B frequently reminds you, salary is not the entire cost of employing someone.
Once the district-paid compensation reported for those same four employees is included, the number becomes:
$715,857.14.
Then there is central administration.
In the compensation report provided by the district, the central administrative position identified here is the Superintendent:
🪶 Base salary: $131,325.00
🪶 Total district compensation: $204,288.65
And context matters here.
In Step Two, we learned that Cheboygan's enrollment declined 18.17% over the decade.
Teacher FTE remained almost perfectly flat at −0.14%.
But total administrator FTE increased 27.45%.
Now Step Three gives us another piece of that picture: what some of those positions cost.
Lady B isn't here to decide what someone should earn.
That's a different conversation.
My job is much simpler.
Open the public records.
Read the numbers.
Put them on the table.
And let the community decide what questions those numbers deserve. 👀🪶
Next stop: the check register.
With receipts and respect.
