WHAT EXACTLY IS SAGINAW ISD ASKING VOTERS FOR?
Lady Budgetdown saw another millage headed for the November ballot.
So before anyone starts yelling YES! or NO! from opposite sides of Facebook, let's do something terribly boring first.
Read the numbers.
Saginaw Intermediate School District is asking voters to continue its Career & Technical Education millage for another 10 years:
2028 through 2037.
Here's what is actually on the ballot:
📌 0.9962 mill - renewal of the existing CTE millage
📌 0.0038 mill - restoration of the small amount lost to Headlee
📌 1.0000 mill total
📌 10 years
📌 Approximately $7.08 million estimated to be collected in the first year, 2028
Now... what does 1 mill actually mean at the kitchen table?
Lady Budgetdown went digging through Saginaw County's 2026 property records.
Countywide, there are 75,747 residential parcels with about $4.59 billion in taxable value.
That works out to an average residential taxable value of about $60,627.
At 1 mill?
About $60.63 per year for the average residential parcel.
Your actual bill may be higher or lower because millages are calculated using your property's taxable value, not its market value.
The money is for Career & Technical Education programs, and the current CTE millage was approved by voters in 2018.
So now we know what voters are being asked to continue, for how long, roughly what it costs, and how much it is expected to collect.
But Lady Budgetdown has one more question.
🐇 Does Saginaw ISD need another 10 years of this millage?
That's Part 2.
And for that one, we're opening the ledger. 📜
