Dearest reader,
Step 4 means Lady B gets to open the check register.
For Hillman Community Schools, a few vendors caught my attention during the 2024–25 review.
Legal:
Thrun Law Firm P.C. — $6,284.05
Architecture:
Kingscott Associates — $18,144.00
Kagan Cooperative Learning:
$12,242.00
Equipment Financing:
U.S. Bank Equipment Finance — $26,332.18
And then there is this one.
Straley Lamp & Kraenzlein P.C. — $170,515.67
That number certainly got Lady B's attention.
The firm provides accounting and professional services, but the check register alone does not tell us exactly what Hillman received for the $170,515.67 paid during the year.
And Lady B doesn't turn a question into an answer simply because the number is interesting.
So for now, it goes into the ledger exactly as the records show it:
$170,515.67.
No assumptions. No accusations.
Just a rather large breadcrumb that may deserve another look.
Step 4 complete.
Next up: the district's financial position.
With receipts and respect.
