Dearest reader,
One final stop in the Grosse Ile Township Schools ledger: the General Fund.
And this one is worth watching.
The district finished FY 2024-25 with:
💰 Revenue: $24,147,360
💸 Expenditures: $22,983,037
📈 Revenue over expenditures: $1,164,323
🏦 Ending fund balance: $5,254,459
So the audited year ended with revenue exceeding expenditures by more than $1.16 million.
Now let's look forward.
For FY 2025-26, the district's final budget projects:
Revenue: $23,767,515
Expenditures: $23,218,650
Projected surplus: $548,865
Ending fund balance: $5,799,909
Then comes FY 2026-27.
The original budget projects:
Revenue: $23,239,323
Expenditures: $24,166,248
Projected deficit: -$926,925
Projected ending fund balance: $4,872,984
That would mean spending approximately $927,000 more than the district expects to bring in during the year.
It would also reduce the projected fund balance by about 16% from the FY 2025-26 level.
One important distinction:
The 2024-25 figures are audited actual results.
The 2025-26 and 2026-27 figures are budgets — projections, not final results. Budgets can and do change as a fiscal year unfolds.
And on the audit side, Lady B did not find the kind of financial-statement findings we have encountered in some other districts.
So there is no audit finding rabbit hole to chase here.
The breadcrumb is simply the budget outlook.
A district that finished FY 2024-25 with a $1.16 million surplus is projecting a $926,925 deficit two budget years later.
That is a number worth putting on the ledger and watching.
With receipts and respect,
