Dearest reader,
Now that we have followed Midland Public Schools' money for the decade, let's follow the people. 🪶
From 2014–15 to 2024–25, enrollment declined 4.30%.
Here is what happened to staffing during that same period:
🍎 Teachers
339.20 → 364.94 FTE
+7.59%
📚 Instructional Aides
26.83 → 59.55 FTE
+121.95%
📖 Instructional Support
8.50 → 14.00 FTE
+64.71%
🧭 Guidance
8.00 → 7.00 FTE
-12.50%
🏫 School Support
46.40 → 35.23 FTE
-24.07%
👥 Student Support
37.35 → 54.78 FTE
+46.67%
📋 Other Support
152.35 → 179.11 FTE
+17.56%
And administration tells an interesting story of its own.
🏛 LEA/District Administrators
8.80 → 13.60 FTE
+54.55%
🏫 School Administrators
36.25 → 20.40 FTE
-43.72%
Combined, total administrators declined from 45.05 to 34.00 FTE — a decrease of 24.53%.
So while Midland served 4.30% fewer pupils, teacher FTE increased 7.59%, instructional aides more than doubled, central/district administration increased 54.55%, and school-level administration declined 43.72%.
The numbers do not tell us why.
They tell us where to look next. 🪶
With receipts and respect,
