Dearest reader,
Lady B has finished the next page of the Chippewa Hills School District ledger. 🪶
In Step 1, we learned that pupil count declined 15.75% over the decade.
Now comes the next question:
What happened to staffing while those students were leaving?
From 2014–15 to 2024–25:
📌 Pupil Count
2,128.00 → 1,792.75
Down 15.75%
🍎 Teachers
99.05 FTE → 85.68 FTE
Down 13.50%
📚 Instructional Aides
26.60 → 33.60 FTE
Up 26.32%
🧩 Instructional Support
1.00 → 2.50 FTE
Up 150.00%
🎓 Guidance
2.50 → 2.00 FTE
Down 20.00%
🏫 School Support
14.25 → 13.08 FTE
Down 8.21%
👥 Student Support
2.00 → 2.85 FTE
Up 42.50%
📋 Other Support
53.25 → 57.10 FTE
Up 7.23%
And then we arrive at administration.
🏛 Total Administrators
12.25 → 12.10 FTE
Down 1.22%
But underneath that total, the composition changed.
District-level administrators increased:
4.65 → 5.85 FTE
Up 25.81%
While school administrators decreased:
7.60 → 6.25 FTE
Down 17.76%
And finally, the number that caught Lady B's eye:
👥 Total Staff
239.05 → 239.20 FTE
Up 0.06%.
In other words, over this ten-year period:
Pupils declined 15.75%.
Teachers declined 13.50%.
Total administrators declined just 1.22%.
And total staff remained virtually unchanged.
That does not tell us whether every position was necessary or unnecessary. A spreadsheet cannot answer that question.
But it does show us how the district's staffing structure changed while enrollment declined by more than 335 pupils.
And that, dear reader, is precisely why we keep turning the pages.
Next stop: the compensation ledger. 👀
With receipts and respect. 🪶
