Our Van Buren Public Schools review continues with a look at the district's Calendar Year 2024 Employee Compensation Information.

Van Buren's report identifies 22 positions with W-2 Medicare wages above $100,000. But as always, context matters: wages and total compensation are not the same thing. Total compensation in this report includes W-2 Medicare wages plus retirement, insurance, and FICA/Medicare costs.

At the top of Van Buren's list:

Total Compensation: $297,045.17

💰 Director of Finance
W-2 Medicare Wages: $136,460.00
Total Compensation: $206,413.93

🎓 Director of Student Support Services
W-2 Medicare Wages: $126,694.72
Total Compensation: $216,778.81

🏫 Director of Buildings & Operations
W-2 Medicare Wages: $121,178.32
Total Compensation: $195,380.35

📚 Director of Instruction & Curriculum
W-2 Medicare Wages: $116,009.00
Total Compensation: $200,821.23

👥 Director of Human Resources
W-2 Medicare Wages: $115,536.92
Total Compensation: $202,915.94

🏅 Athletic Director
W-2 Medicare Wages: $114,029.10
Total Compensation: $199,589.26

Across the entire qualifying list, the 22 positions account for approximately $2.50 million in W-2 Medicare wages and $4.17 million in total compensation.

And Van Buren's list isn't limited to administrators. It also includes six teachers whose W-2 Medicare wages exceeded $100,000 during the calendar year, five secondary teachers and one elementary teacher.

It is simply a look at what taxpayers are paying, how compensation is structured, and where those dollars go.
