Lady Budgetdown: Marysville Public Schools: The Ten-Year Ledger

Well, Marysville... the ledger has arrived. 🪶

And this one has an interesting story to tell.

From 2014-15 to 2024-25:

📉 Pupil count: DOWN 3.3%

💰 All-sources revenue per pupil: UP 49.4%

📚 Instruction per pupil: UP 31.3%

📝 Instructional support per pupil: UP 105.0%

🏛 Business & administration per pupil: UP 35.5%

🔧 Operations & maintenance per pupil: UP 44.5%

🍎 Average teacher salary: UP 12.3%

For comparison, inflation over the same period was 35.83%.

That means Marysville's revenue per pupil grew about 13.6 percentage points faster than inflation, while average teacher salary growth trailed inflation by about 23.5 points.

And there's the part of the ledger that catches Lady B's eye:

Instructional support spending per pupil more than doubled. Meanwhile, average teacher salary increased just 12.3% over the entire decade.

That doesn't automatically tell us why. It does, however, tell us exactly where the next questions belong. Because Lady Budgetdown isn't here to tell Marysville what to think.

She just puts ten years of receipts on one page and lets everyone take a look.

Receipts aren't very useful if we only keep the convenient ones.

With receipts & respect. 👑🪶
