Dearest reader,

Step 3 is open for Coleman Community Schools, and this one is fairly straightforward.

Coleman's 2025 compensation report lists just two employees with W-2 Medicare wages over $100,000.

The Superintendent / Special Education Supervisor reported:

W-2 Medicare wages: $159,324.29
Total compensation: $222,864.66

That total includes retirement, FICA and other benefits. The district also notes that the wage figure includes $6,000 in grant-writing stipends.

The Director / Teacher reported:

W-2 Medicare wages: $101,325.73
Total compensation: $166,563.69

Combined, the two positions account for $389,428.35 in total compensation.

That does not make Coleman a large "$100K club" district. In fact, the report contains only those two employees above the threshold.

But it does give us an important piece of context for the breadcrumb that brought us here.

Coleman is a district serving roughly 557 pupils, and its superintendent role is also combined with Special Education Supervisor duties.

So rather than simply labeling the salary "high," the better question is:

How does this compensation compare with similarly sized Michigan districts, especially where the superintendent carries a combined administrative role?

That comparison is where the receipts become more useful.

For now, Step 3 gives us the compensation picture.

The ledger continues.

With receipts and respect.
