UPDATE: A READER ASKED THE NEXT QUESTION

Yesterday, I showed you one number:

Saginaw ISD Superintendent Jeffrey Collier's base salary increased from approximately $160,000 in 2021 to $297,000 in 2024–25, about 85.6%.

Then a reader left a very reasonable question:

"What about all the other SISD employees?"

Well.

Sometimes a reader drops the breadcrumb for me. 🪶

So I followed this one, but only far enough to answer the question. I looked at SISD teachers.

According to SISD's published salary information:

Teacher minimum salary
$41,172 → $43,696
Increase: approximately 6.1%

Teacher maximum salary
$84,682 → $94,686
Increase: approximately 11.8%

And for comparison:
Superintendent base salary
$160,000 → $297,000
Increase: approximately 85.6%

Teachers received raises.

But no, their salary scale did not increase anything remotely close to the superintendent's.

And there was another breadcrumb sitting nearby.

SISD's own employee benefit guides show that during part of this same period, teachers were also paying considerably more toward certain health-insurance options than they had previously. The documents don't describe the deductions identically from year to year, so I'm not going to manufacture a percentage comparison that the records don't cleanly support. Receipts deserve better than that.

There is some good news in the newer records: SISD's 2026 benefit offerings appear to have brought employee costs down substantially on several plan options.

So, to the reader who asked what happened to everyone else:

There's at least part of your answer.

The superintendent's salary nearly doubled.

The teacher salary schedule did not.

And sometimes the best rabbit holes begin with a question in the comments.

With receipts and respect. 🪶📖
