ESSEXVILLE-HAMPTON: FOLLOWING THE PEOPLE

Step 1 showed us where the money moved.

Now Step 2 shows us where the people moved.

Over the decade, pupil count fell 13.1%.

But teacher FTE increased 17.5% — from 77.13 to 90.60.

At the same time:

Instructional aides fell 41.2%.
Guidance fell 86.0%.
Student support fell 62.2%.

And administration?

NCES shows total administrative FTE fell 25.4%, including a 46.4% decrease in district-level administrators.

Perhaps the most interesting number is the last one:

Total staff went from 172.99 FTE to 171.16.

Essentially flat — while enrollment declined 13.1%.

That doesn't tell us whether the staffing mix is right or wrong.

It does show us that while the number of students changed considerably, the number of people employed did not.

And just as interestingly, where those employees are positioned changed quite a bit.

The ledger continues.

👑 With receipts and respect.
