LADY BUDGETDOWN | PLYMOUTH-CANTON COMMUNITY SCHOOLS

Well, dear readers, sometimes one question leads Lady Budgetdown down an entirely different rabbit hole. 🪶

While reviewing Plymouth-Canton Community Schools' staffing data, I separated school-level administration from district/central-office administration rather than lumping every administrator into one category.

And that distinction produced a number worth asking about.

From 2014–15 to 2024–25:

🔻 Pupil enrollment decreased 8.97%

🔺 School/building administration increased 1.4%

🔺 District/central-office administration increased 218.4%

Yes 218.4%.

That does not, by itself, tell me that those positions were unnecessary. It doesn't tell me why they were added. Changes in responsibilities, organizational structure, reporting classifications, programs or services could all matter.

But when a district serves nearly 9% fewer pupils, while the central-office administrative category grows by more than three times its starting level, Lady Budgetdown believes there's a perfectly reasonable question to ask:

What changed at central office?

What positions or responsibilities account for that growth, and what services were added or moved into central administration during those ten years?

Those are questions. Not conclusions.

And if there's a perfectly reasonable explanation, I'd very much like to understand it.

Because sometimes the interesting part isn't simply whether administration increased.

It's where it increased.

🪶 With receipts & respect.
